Is it ideal to build two websites and get them to rank?

In my honest opinion, if you are looking to dominate on Google search engine for your products and services, I don’t see any problem with building two separate website with unique content. Two sites on the first page of Google is any business dream, and you get many impressions and organic clicks to both.

There are just a couple of things that might stop you on this journey to rank two separate websites:

  1. Double the spending with a website designer to build your websites.
  2. Double the investment on SEO, not knowing when you will start seeing organic results.
  3. Branding can be confusing on social media sites.

How I helped one business owner rank with two websites

I have the privileged to be working with John from Water Features Galore and Water Feature Shop, to launch both of their websites and perform SEO strategy at the same time.

PHASE ONE

I make sure both homepage of the web page has unique content and no backlinking to one another. It’s part of my first phase of search engine optimisation; including keywords research and on-page optimisation.

PHASE TWO

Moving forward in the second month, I concentrate on quality backlink building to increase domain authority and popularity. Off-page SEO can include setting up social media presence on Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube and Google My Business.

I continue with my off-page strategy to fine-tune and redefining ways to boost Google rankings. Over time, the results started to come in and seeing organic rankings increase significantly.

How did I do?

I have increased their organic clicks, it’s literally “free” clicks, that will keep on giving.

Penguin is now running in real time.
Generating back links can now be updated live. Concentrate on high-authority back links and not on LOW-quality SEO.


Links are still important

It’s important to know external links are still relevant; Google has explained this number of times. Experts such as John Mueller, Gary Illyes and Matt Cutts clarifying just how important links as a ranking signal to climb the ladder in SEO.

What Google wants

From the Penguin 4.0 announcement: “focus on creating amazing, compelling websites.”
From the Webmaster Guidelines: “Think about what makes your website unique, valuable, or engaging. Make your website stand out from others in your field.”

No longer is Penguin a site-wide negative ranking factor

That’s right – no more site-wide penalties if you happened to be experimenting with bad SEO. Penguin is now focusing on a more granular level, so if one page gets penalised, the rest of your website can still keep its ranking.

Penguin threats remain

Penguin algorithm is looking for a site with one or numerous of the following types of back links in their profile:

  • Links from poor quality, “spammy” sites.
  • Links from sites created purely for SEO link building (PBNs);
  • Links from irrelevant sites.
  • Paid links.
  • Links with overly optimised anchor text.

Local business listing is also the key to your online success. Proximity to the searcher’s location has become even more important as a ranking signal thanks to a Google algorithm update nicknamed Possum.


With the Possum algorithm change, Google is continuing down a path it has been travelling for quite some time, which is the merging of local and organic ranking signals.

If you are relying on Local Listing, your business could be affected by the new update.

If your business is sharing the same address with similar local businesses your listing will be less visible in the search results.

Google has always been filtering local listing with the same phone number or domain for a while now, but now they may also filtering businesses sharing the same physical address.

Let’s say your business is offering printing services and shares the address with a similar service provider, the bad news is one of the listing can be filtered out…leaving you with decrease in foot traffic and website clicks. This is their way to eliminate duplicate content in its search result.

How to convince Google your listing is unique and valuable?

  • Make sure your listing is unique and accurate as possible.
  • Check if your business is listing on high-authority local resources & directories.
  • Verify your business descriptions.
  • Add high-quality videos and images to your listing.
  • Ask customers to review your business.

Google AdWords Vs. SEO

During my 2 hour SEO workshop on Thursday the 25th of August 2016 I had 6 business owners looking to learn about search engine optimisation and keywords research. During our introduction, we were discussing the difference between Google AdWords and SEO.

If you are a new or existing business looking to increase traffic, brand awareness and generate new leads and sales, you have already exposed to Google AdWords. Google AdWords can be a powerful tool to target your online customers at the right time when they need your services or products.

Google AdWords has become very popular with new and existing businesses but the costs can be very expensive every month. Being a small business owner you are competing against the biggest guys on the block with a BIG budget that you cannot win. To be on the first page you will have to increase your Cost Per Click if Quality Score are not doing the trick.

How expensive can AdWords be?


As one of the business owner explained in the above video, Google Adwords can be very expensive.

Let’s say; you are spending $20 per day and times that by 3 separate campaigns for a broad range of your products or services, that’s $60 per day. You are looking at $1,680 per month for running your campaigns. For a new business like John, Google AdWords is very expensive, so he’s looking to invest into SEO for organic traffic. Why Opt for SEO for long term online marketing strategy?

Let’s say John invested $300 per month for 6 keywords with a decent volume of searches per month and less competition. His AdWords campaigns would cost him $1,680 per month and if he invested in SEO with the same amount, he could start seeing organic traffic within 6 months.

Should you go with AdWords or SEO?


You will need to invest in both options; AdWords for quick results and SEO for long term strategy where you will reap the rewards and help keep costs down and importantly grow your business.
